According to different sources, the number of billionaires on earth varies from 2,640 to 3,381 as of April 2023. The most recent estimate by Forbes (April 2023) ² reports that there are 2,640 billionaires in the world, with a total net worth of $12.2 trillion. The richest person in the world is Bernard Arnault, the head of luxury goods giant LVMH, with a net worth of $211 billion. The United States has the most billionaires, with 735, followed by China (including Hong Kong and Macau), with 562. India ranks third, with 169 billionaires.

Another source, Knight Frank's Wealth Report (2018) ³, claims that there are 3,381 billionaires in the world, with the United States leading with 585, followed by Mainland China with 373, and Germany with 123. India ranks fourth, with 119 billionaires.

A third source, Hurun Global Rich List (2022) , reports that there are 3,228 billionaires in the world, with China having the most, with 846, followed by the United States with 691, and India with 187. The richest person in the world according to this source is Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, with a net worth of $197 billion.

The different numbers of billionaires reported by different sources may be due to different methods of calculation, different definitions of wealth, different dates of data collection, and different exchange rates.
